Recruitment
Takeaways
Being a part of the recruitment process in such a big way really taught me a lot. One of the biggest lessons I learned was the importance of delegating. There was literally no way that one person could have been expected to plan, lead, and execute recruitment alone. In my first semester as Vice President of Membership, I tried to do everything on my own. I had a very supportive friend group but beyond that, I created new positions to become part of the recruitment team. I had women in charge of setting up the room day of recruitment and taking it down from the night before. I created a retention committee to help me understand the issues within the chapter and give sisters more resources to talk to.
I also learned the importance of communication. No one can read your mind it is your job to take the time to clearly explain what you want or the situation you are in. This can be done in many different ways but I learned that a conversation is best for me.
Winter 2018 Continuous Open Bidding Events
Going into the spring semester my chapter was down in numbers. I planned and executed 4 events in opens to recruit a few more sisters. My idea was to treat each event like a sisterhood event. We had more sisters attending than potential new members. My hope was that sisters not recruiting would still enjoy themselves and get to know the sisters around them more. The events were a Waffle Bar, Cookie Decorating, a Nacho Bar, and Paint Night. Each event not only had to be fun and super cute but it also had to comply with university guidelines and rules.
Fall Formal Recruitment
In the fall our Panhellenic Council conducts a formal recruitment process. The formal recruitment process is 3 days and consists of serval rounds each day in order to meet all the potential new members that have signed for this process. As Vice President of Membership it was my responsibility to submit the completed and correct paperwork, follow a strict budget, attend all meetings, prepare the chapter, and decorate the room. I also handmade several center pieces and the banners for room decor. During my time as Vice President of Membership, due to a hurricane recruitment was rescheduled to a different weekend. I worked quickly on my feet to reschedule and coordinate what I needed to.
